A Little bit about Kasia's and Shiro's Feline Jungle
I adopted Shiro almost two years ago when I already had quite a few plants. Luckily, I didn’t have to get rid of any of them because Shiro turned out to be an easy-going cat with almost no interest in plants. Since then, my plant collection kept growing and growing. We live in Madrid in a small attic apartment with a sunny terrace. I’m now struggling to fit more flora in, I think it’s time to move to a bigger house!;) Shiro knows that he should stay away from my plants because I could get annoyed. He sometimes takes advantage of that when he's bored or wants to go outside, and starts playing with my Monstera to attract my attention.
The trick to become "The Purr-fect Plant"
I think you just need to adapt to your cat’s needs and arrange the space for him accordingly. Shiro, like most cats, has his favourite hiding spots in the house. Some of them are also perfect spots for plants. I don’t want to give up on having plants in the places he chooses for his little oases, so I just check where exactly he likes sitting (which side of the shelf, window sill etc.) and put plants where they won’t disturb him, so that my cat and plants can happily coexist. Of course, it’s also important to pick the right plants for those locations, that is the non-toxic ones or the ones that your cat is not obsessed with.
